A year in review: AI-powered innovations across the Webex Suite

2024 has been a pivotal year for Webex, as we continued our commitment to connect people together, from everywhere, on any device by delivering smarter, more powerful experiences. This year, we achieved groundbreaking advancements and innovations that are driven by the needs of our customers and partners globally in every industry.

Our customers continue to choose the Webex Suite to keep their workforce connected and engaged and to seamlessly collaborate internally and externally. Webex continues to be the only vendor with a complete suite of products from app to devices that are trusted by millions and are backed by Cisco’s networking infrastructure and end-to-end security. From innovative AI-powered features to expanded integrations and unprecedented growth, our momentum continues to shape the future of work – home, office, or on-the-go.

As we wrap up this year, let’s look at some of our innovations that have not only defined 2024 but paved the way forward into 2025.

AI-powered innovations across the Webex Suite

Unmatched audio quality

Today, AI plays an important role in the way we collaborate and interact with each other, and our pervasive AI across the Webex Platform works silently in the background to improve communications, productivity and remove barriers whether collaborating internally or externally.

Earlier this year, we announced the availability of our industry-leading Webex AI Codec, enabling you to intelligently transform your audio experiences during calls and meetings when working from poor network conditions with low-bandwidth.

AI Assistant across the Webex Suite

We also announced the general availability of Cisco AI Assistant in the Webex Suite, delivering  AI innovations across audio, video, and text so whether you’re supporting customers, collaborating with teams, or getting work done, you’re always at your best. The AI Assistant for Webex is with you every step of the way, improving productivity, enhancing communications and delivering more effective outcomes, ensuring that you get the most of every meeting, call, message and communication.

We, along with our customers have been using Cisco AI Assistant for months, and the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. The AI Assistant has been enabled for 300M+ meeting minutes and is being used multiple times per week to summarize meetings and translate and rewrite messages.

AI Assistant will also soon be available for Webex Calling. We’ll integrate AI Assistant throughout the Calling workflow, enabling Webex Calling users to view transcripts, call summaries, and action items during a live call or after a call.  When a user transfers a call they can forward a summary to the new recipient, helping the new person get up to speed faster with the details of the call being forwarded to them so they can better help the person on the call. AI Assistant for Calling features will be rolled out in 2024 and 2025.

Increasing employee engagement via AI-generated polls and video

According to Metrigy, 75% use an employee experience platform to support employee engagement*. Providing employees with the right tools to engage with others and feel included in the conversation in crucial in today’s modern workplace. As I mentioned earlier, AI is added into every workflow within the Webex Suite including our engagement tools, Polling and Video Messaging.

You can now easily build AI-generated Slido quizzes and polls from Microsoft PowerPoint or Google Slides, and they will be placed intelligently throughout your presentation. It’s easier than ever, and it will boost interaction in a way that feels organic and contextually relevant. These features bring greater engagement and insight to each meeting, making them more valuable for every participant.

You can also build a complete AI-generated Video and Talk Track in Vidcast leveraging PowerPoint Slides or PDF. Easily upload your document, select your preferred language and tone, and you will have a complete video and talk track that can be edited within seconds. There are so many great use cases for this feature, and it enables everyone to feel included in the conversation.

Expanding Webex Calling to new markets around the world

Our growth is driven by a commitment to enhancing communication experiences and expanding our global presence. Webex Calling provides a seamless path to the cloud with flexible migration options and an enterprise-grade feature set delivered on a platform with proven 99.999% availability. In 2024, Webex Calling expanded its reach to over 180 markets globally, covering 95% of the world’s GDP. This expansion includes critical partnerships like Tata Communications in India, and AT&T Business and Verizon Business in the United States. We’ve also expanded our global data center infrastructure with media point of presence in the United Arab Emirates and South Africa, and a second data center in the United Kingdom. By enhancing connectivity in key regions, Webex Calling allows businesses to meet their unique communication needs while supporting data residency and sovereignty, ensuring secure and reliable experiences for users worldwide.

Connecting workers anywhere, on any device

Webex Go reimagined

We’re making mobile compliant calling easier with Webex Go. Soon, Webex Go solution will soon be included with the Webex Calling Professional License for no additional fee. We’re also providing customers with additional flexible connectivity options through our Certified Mobile Calling Providers, including our partners AudioCodes, CallTower, Pure IP, NTT, Nuwave, and Tata Communications.

In 2025, our Certified Mobile Calling Providers will expand coverage to new marketings including Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Mexico, Poland, Spain, and Sweden, complementing our existing coverage in the United States, United Kingdom, and France.

Webex for Auto

We continue to partner with auto industry leaders to optimize the in-car experience with purpose-built technology that improves collaboration and enhances safety, allowing you to take your meetings and conversations on the road. In 2024, we announced a new partnership with Ford and Lincoln, bringing Webex app to the vehicle digital experience.

New era of spatial computing with Webex for Apple Vision Pro

In 2024 we released Webex for Apple Vision Pro, which seamlessly blends digital content with the physical world. Webex users will enjoy the familiar experience and capabilities that they have come to know and love. Features like Webex AI background noise removal, real-time translations, closed captions, live polling and Q&A by Slido, Cisco AI Assistant, and many others, are integrated into Webex for Apple Vision Pro, allowing meeting participants to focus on what matters.

Strengthening Partnerships and Integrations to Empower Hybrid Work

Integrated Workflows with Third-Party Apps

Our expanded integrations with applications like Salesforce, ServiceNow, and Zendesk make it easier for users to automate tasks and access essential information within their preferred tools. With the AI Assistant, users can quickly integrate critical insights into their workflows, improving productivity and keeping teams aligned. These integrations create a unified work experience, helping employees collaborate seamlessly across platforms.

Expanded call recording partner ecosystem

Call recording is essential for many calling users for compliance and quality management. In 2024, we expanded our call recording partner ecosystem to include ASC, Eleveo, and Theta Lake.

So many customers from across the full spectrum of verticals such as Financial Services, Healthcare, Hi Tech, Retail, Manufacturing to Travel, Sports and Entertainment with unique requirements and standards in usability, security and compliance use Webex daily to connect, collaborate and engage. During our annual WebexOne event in late October, we heard from many of our customers such as Dallas Cowboys, Burrell Behavioral Health, Cigna, McLaren, BlackRock, M&T Bank and more on how they leverage the power of Webex to successfully navigate the future of work.

This acknowledgment was due to significant investment in AI, seamless integrations with Cisco Devices, and our breath of offering across the entire Webex Platform. Webex was also recognized as a UCaaS Leader by Forrester, Aragon, IDC and others.
