Tired of searching for cables during your meetings? With Miracast® on Cisco RoomOS & Cisco MTR devices, you can wirelessly share your screen and transform any meeting room into a cable-free environment. Here’s everything you need to know to start sharing seamlessly.
Why Choose Miracast?
- Cable-free: Eliminate meeting room’s cable clutter with Miracast and remove the need for ‘passing the cable’.
- Works with any meeting platform: Miracast is an agnostic wireless sharing solution, meaning it doesn’t matter what meeting platform you’re using on RoomOS or Cisco MTR devices, it will work just the same.
- Easy to use: Setting up Miracast is straightforward and typically involves a few simple steps to connect devices. It uses native screen mirroring technology available on most Windows laptops & Android mobile phones. You can share in seconds to a Cisco device without needing to download or install any apps.
- Choose what to share: By using the “Extend Desktop to this Display” option on your PC with Miracast, you can use the display as another monitor and drag across what you want to share. Whether you want to share only a specific application or keep your presenter notes open on your laptop, this gives you privacy and control over your share.
- High-quality video and audio: Miracast supports high-definition video and audio transmission, ensuring that presentations, videos, and other media are displayed with clarity, low latency, and good sound quality.
For Admins: Enabling Miracast
Miracast is off by default, so if you’re not seeing the option on your RoomOS or Cisco MTR device, then it means it is not turned on, and admins will need to enable it in Control Hub.
For admins to enable Miracast:
- Log into Control Hub at admin.webex.com.
- Go to Devices then select the device (or multiple devices) that you want to configure from the list.
- Select Edit on the right of the top bar to open the side panel
- Under ‘Configurations’, select ‘All configurations’
- On this screen, use the search bar to find the following configuration: Video > Input > Miracast > Mode
- For ‘Configuration value’, set to “On” so it is enabled on all devices.
- On the bottom right of this screen, select “Next” and then “Apply” to save your changes.
- Conduct a test on an enabled device to ensure that Miracast is functioning correctly and accessible to users.
Network requirements: To enable Miracast on Cisco devices, configure your network to support both Wi-Fi Direct and Miracast over infrastructure (MS-MICE), ensuring TCP ports 7236 and 7250 are open on Windows devices.
Limitation: Note that Miracast is not available on RoomOS devices connected to the internet over Wi-Fi.
